MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has given the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) the go-signal to conduct an annual survey on the metalworking industry.
In a statement, the PSA said it has approved the request for clearance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)’s MIRDC to hold the 2016 Metalworking Industry Survey (MIS).
The survey, which will cover the metalcasting and heat treatment sectors, aims to assess the companies.
Companies taking part in the survey will be evaluated based on employment size, profile of production workers, volume and cost of production, revenue, and inventory of equipment as of 2016.
The survey will also cover the respondents’ business outlook and plans for the next five years.
“MIRDC will use the results of the survey to determine issues and concerns in the metalcasting and heat treatment sectors and to identify the most appropriate programs for the said sectors that will significantly strengthen the metalworking industry,” the PSA said.
An estimated P499,000 will be spent for each sector to conduct the survey. This covers travelling expenses, supplies, printing, and costs on communication and data dissemination.
The MIRDC is set to start its data collection activities covering 85 metalcasting companies and 63 heat treatment shops located all over the Philippines.
About 65 of the 85 metalcasting shops and 14 of the 63 heat treatment companies are located in National Capital Region, the PSA said.
