CEBU, Philippines - A man was killed after the car he was driving rammed into a 10-wheeler truck at the national highway in Poblacion Ward I, Minglanilla town yesterday.
Orencio Taraya, 57, of Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla was declared dead on arrival at the Minglanilla District Hospital following the accident.
Superintendent Dexter Calacar, Minglanilla Police Station chief, said Taraya, who was driving his Toyota Vios (YGX258), was heading south while the truck (GEB364), driven by Alvin Samino, 33, of Salinas Drive Extension, Lahug, Cebu City, was heading north when the incident happened.
Calacar said a dumptruck ahead of Samino noticed the car and tried swerving to the other lane to avoid hitting it. Samino, though, failed to avoid the car on time.
“Sa among linya, ang dumptruck nga akong gisundan nilihay unya paglihay niya ang auto dayun maoy niadto sa pikas linya mao to nga abi nako’g modasmag sa pader, nibawi man nuon balik, didto man nuon nadasmag sa akoa,” Samino said.
Due to the collision, Samino lost control of his truck so that it rammed into the steel gate of a nearby house.
“Ingon sa pamilya nga galalis daw to siya bago siya niuli unya hubog dyud siya maong nag ekis-ekis to iyang agi,” Calacar said. Taraya was alone when the incident happened.
Samino was temporarily detained at the Minglanilla Police Station pending the filing of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide complaint against him. — Arvie Veloso (FREEMAN)
