MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-5.4 earthquake shook Northern Samar and parts of Bicol region on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, was located in Mapanas, Northern Samar. It struck around 8:43 a.m. at a depth of 27 kilometers.
Intensity II was reported in Catarman, Northern Samar; Cabid-an and Juban in Sorsogon while Intensity I was felt in Tacloban City and Palo in Leyte.
Instrumental intensities were felt in Legazpi City, Masbate City, Borongan in Eastern Samar and Sorsogon City.
A magnitude-4.5 quake was also recorded in Catarman, Samar with a depth of focus of 26 kilometers.
Phivolcs said that damage is not expected from the quake but aftershocks are expected.
