MANILA, Philippines - The budget airline of taipan John Gokongwei has received its 36th brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft, bringing its current fleet to 57.

Cebu Pacific said in a statement the plane was delivered from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France yesterday.

The new aircraft is equipped with fuel-saving wingtip devices called Sharklets.

With the latest delivery, Cebu Pacific’s current fleet is composed of seven Airbus A319s, 36 Airbus A320s, six Airbus A330s, and eight ATR 72-500 aircraft.

Cebu Pacific’s fleet is among the youngest in the world, with an average age of 4.78 years.

“We continue to optimize our growing fleet, enabling more passengers to reap the benefits of fast, seamless and affordable air travel. We are looking forward to taking additional planes this year until 2021, to serve the ever-growing domestic and international markets,” Paterno Mantaring, Cebu Pacific vice president for corporate affairs said.

Cebu Pacific has plans of growing its fleet to over 80 by 2021.

The move to increase its aircraft is in line with the aim to expand its operations.

Cebu Pacific currently serves over 90 routes from its seven hubs such as Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminals 3 and 4; Mactan-Cebu International Airport; Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga; Davao International Airport; Ilo-ilo International Airport; and Kalibo International Airport in Aklan.

Net earnings of Cebu Pacific reached P4.39 billion last year, a 414 percent surge from P853.50 million in 2014.

The carrier had a total of 18.4 million passengers last year, 8.9 percent higher than the 16.9 million in 2014.
