ICTSI cleared to put up $30-M Cavite terminal

MANILA, Philippines - International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has secured government approval for its proposal to build a $30- million common-user barge and Roll-on/Roll-off terminal in Cavite.

ICTSI chairman and president Enrique Razon told reporters yesterday the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project is scheduled to be held today.

Christian Gonzalez, ICTSI senior vice president and regional head of Asia Pacific and Manila International Container Terminal told reporters the project has been approved by the government.

The project called Cavite Gateway Terminal (CGT) will be built within a six-hectare property in Tanza, Cavite.

In addition to the Cavite Export Processing Zone which houses over 400 actively operating companies, there are other planned developments within the province.

Phase 1 of the project is expected to support a total throughput of 115,000 twenty-foot equivalent units per year.

Gonzalez said ICTSI expects the facility to be operational within the first quarter of next year.

“Harbor Star is going to be a client…It’s a common user facility. Whoever wants to use it, if you can secure window, then, go and use it,” he said.

The project is expected to help decongest Manila’s streets by reducing truck traffic on roads around the metropolitan area.

While ICTSI is pursuing a new project within the country, it is also looking at opportunities overseas.

Razon said ICTSI is bidding for a port project in Greece.

The bidding process for the project in Greece is expected to be completed within two to three months.

Razon said ICTSI is also interested in projects in Africa.

Established in 1988 in Manila, ICTSI is involved in port operations, management and development.

The company has projects in the Asia Pacific, the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
