The APAC Predator League 2018 is the first eSports competition hosted by Acer and is one of the largest world-class tournaments in Asia Pacific. With a total prize pool of $15,000, competitors battled it out in the grand final stage for the right to claim the Predator Shield, the main trophy for the competition.

Best eight in Asia

The preliminary round of the APAC Predator League 2018 kicked off in October 2017 and gathered 1,197 eSports teams from eight different countries, with each national winner advancing to the international stage. Eight teams across Asia – Quid Pro Quo (Philippines), Geek Fam (Malaysia), Alpha Red (Thailand), Ten Twenty (Singapore), Azure Esport (Hong Kong), Signify (India), We Say No (Sri Lanka) and Boom ID (Indonesia) – made it to the international LAN tournament.

By hosting this tournament, Acer seeks to help reinforce the development of the PC gaming industry in the Asia Pacific region. The grand final stage of the tournament was recognized by the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) as the “Live Online Game on the Largest LED Screen in Southeast Asia.”

After intense team battles, Geek Fam took home the Predator Shield, a $50,000 prize, five units of Predator Helios 300, and the honor of being champion of the first-ever Asia Pacific Predator League. Hometown favorites Boom ID clinched second place and the $25,000 prize while Filipino pride Quid Pro Quo settled for third and $15,000 after consecutive 2-0 victories against Team Sri Lanka, Team Singapore and Team India.

Acer Pan Asia Pacific president Andrew Hou expressed optimism that the tournament will help discover the skills and talents of eSports athletes in the international stage. “This is the moment we have been waiting for. By holding the Predator League, Acer is helping promote the development of the gaming industry and create a strong gaming ecosystem in the Asia Pacific region. By engaging with the best eSport players, we aim to showcase their remarkable skills and boost their true potential through topnotch devices from the Predator gaming series and provide the team with exceptional gaming experience,” he said.

Team QPQ: From local matches to the international stage

Team Quid Pro Quo is a Filipino eSport team whose members are Shanks, Shanti, S-God, Tino, and team captain Kevin “Kevs” Edquilan. Established in September 2017, Quid Pro Quo was formed by five members who started their respective careers in different local teams, casually playing DoTA 2 against each other before singing up to form the Quid Pro Quo super team.

After winning the Philippine Predator League Qualifier, Quid Pro Quo advanced to the APAC Predator League 2018, their first International LAN tournament.

“Today, we learned the value of practice and focus,” said Edquilan. “In games, keep away from distractions, maintain discipline, and just keep moving forward. Face it as a team, win or lose, always support your teammates.”
