Happily resettled back home
FUNFARE - Ricky Lo (The Philippine Star) - March 20, 2017 - 12:00am

In the long run, there’s really no place like home. To paraphrase the oft-quoted saying, pagkahaba-haba man daw ng paglalakbay, sa home sweet home din ang tuloy.

Ask Patricia Javier and her husband, Dr. Rob Walcher III, now one of the 34 known chiropractors in the Philippines (although not all may be practicing), and she will nod, “It’s true!”

When Patricia got married more than a decade ago, she turned her back on a flourishing career and relocated to San Diego, California, where she and Rob raised their children, Robert IV, 10, and James, five years old. And Patricia (using her real name Genesis) couldn’t resist the call of showbiz so she would accept offers for shows while Rob minded his own business of relieving people of aches and pains.

A few years ago, the Walchers sold their San Diego bungalow (complete with a swimming pool and a well-trimmed lawn in front), packed their things and resettled back home…for good. No regrets, according to Patricia who is picking up where she had left off, starting with TV guestings (in the just-concluded ABS-CBN soap Doble Kara and the Jack en Poy segment of Eat, Bulaga!) while completing her new album titled Patricia Reinvented. She has just been hired as the celebrity endorser of Girlactik, a US brand of beauty cosmetics now available in the Philippines.

Like Andy Smith, the Australian husband of Diana Zubiri, who is a guest star in the GMA action-adventure Encantadia, Rob part-times as an actor (he played the American father of Andre Paras in the GMA soap Amboy) while running his Dr. Rob Chiropractic Wellness clinic which has relocated from Scout Rallos Street to the corner of Tomas Morato Avenue and Scout Madrinan, also in Quezon City (at the back of The Belo Medical Clinic), due to his growing number of patients (among them Derek Ramsay and Martin Nievera).

“Actually,” said Patricia, “Rob started treating patients at our home, until the line of patients reached the street. So we decided to put up a clinic.”

Initially, when they came home, Patricia and Rob conducted a wellness mission around Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.

“Rob explained the benefits of chiropractic treatment to residents free of charge,” added Patricia who acts as their clinic’s operations manager.

“We want to create a good environment,” explained Rob who has just signed up as official chiropractor of the Blackwater Elite basketball team. “It’s a good experience. People come to our clinic not just because of pain but also for prevention and good health.”

Rob has just launched his own line of pillows which he calls Doc Rob’s Chiropractic Wellness Pillow exclusively available at his clinic for P3,500 each.

Rob has adjusted to life in the Philippines.

“He’s secure with himself,” shared Patricia, “kasi he’s successful in his own profession. He understands the demands of showbiz and he supports my showbiz career. He even allows me to go on out-of-town shows. I feel so lucky.”

More on wellness

I haven’t seen Leah Salterio (who contributes to this section) for weeks so when she invited me to have lunch, I readily said yes. A few years ago, I was with her on a trip to the US (for the opening of Dr. Vicki Belo’s clinic, which has since ceased operation) when she suffered a stroke that landed her in the hospital for more than a month.

Leah told me to meet at a room in the Clinica Manila at the SM Megamall and I would know why. That’s where she is having regular therapy through the Medsonix Device. Our friend, Prof. Enrique “Eric” Soriano III, was around to educate me about the revolutionary treatment through sound.

“Millions of Filipinos are suffering in silence because of the pain of arthritis, migraine, diabetes and other medical conditions,” said Eric. “Although pain relief is a basic human right, the Pain Society of the Philippines said lack of knowledge, the indifference of certain doctors, and the reluctance and refusal of some patients to get the right pain treatment have prevented many Filipinos from exercising this right. This not only affects a person’s health and well-being, but also his work and relationships with other people.”

Hopefully, all that may change with the introduction of a new medical device that offers quick relief from pain and inflammation.

The Medsonix Acoustic Resonating Therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free, pain-free, prescription-free, safe and effective method of relieving pain and discomfort now available in the Philippines. Developed over 10 years by Alphonse Cassone of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, this US FDA-registered device uses low frequency sound waves to increase blood flow, decrease inflammation and pain, and relieve the painful symptoms of a host of medical problems.

“Immediate and sustained pain relief has been experienced by many patients after only one therapy session. Six sessions are normally required for maximum benefit,” according to Cassone, 42, who has experimented with sound waves for the past 15 years.

“We are confident that the Medsonix Therapy System will be embraced by many Filipinos who have suffered long enough and want immediate relief from pain,” said Eric who is an educator, family business coach, author, columnist, professor of global marketing, program director for real estate and chair of the Marketing Cluster of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.

Each Medsonix session lasts for about 30 minutes and can be done while patients are reading, listening to music or checking their e-mails. There is no need to disrobe but patients are required to wear sound reduction headphones during treatment. As they are enveloped with low frequency sound waves, patients often feel a warm, tingly sensation throughout the body or around the affected area.

Among the many medical conditions that can be helped by the Medsonix Therapy System are arthritis, bursitis, migraine, carpal tunnel syndrome, back and joint pain, multiple sclerosis, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, sciatica, diabetic neuropathy, lupus and peripheral vascular disease.

I tried it and, yes, I felt a bit better. One session is not enough.
