MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday appointed newly retired Philippine Army Chief Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda as board member of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority to ensure zero corruption in the agency.

Duterte announced Miranda’s new post in his speech during the Army’s change of command and retirement ceremony in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

“Bago ako mag-tapos, talagang sumasaludo ako kay General Miranda. That is why automatic he will be a member of a board sa itong conversion. Itong nag-papatakbong ito, walang military diyan,” Duterte said.

“I need somebody there from your sector para masabi niyo tinitignan niyo kung paano ang takbo. Now, there is corruption. Ade bugbugin mo diyan mismo sa ano,” he added.

Duterte recently named Maj. Gen. Rolando Bautista, former Presidential Security Group commander, as Miranda’s successor.

Miranda, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983, will retire four days ahead of his mandatory retirement age of 56 on October 8.

He will be the latest addition to the roster of former military men appointed by Duterte to government positions.

BCDA is a government instrumentality vested with corporate powers under Republic Act 7227. It engages in public-private partnerships to push forward vital public infrastructure.
