Duterte warns of renewed terror attack in Mindanao
Christina Mendez (The Philippine Star) - February 14, 2018 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines — Saying he sees “dark clouds ahead,” President Duterte has warned the public that violence and terrorism would erupt again in Mindanao.

“The first to erupt will be Basilan, Cagayan, maybe Davao. There are many Moros. It’s not the Moros...it’s the terrorists since they have the same features,” Duterte said in his speech before local executives in Cebu on Monday.

The President noted how slain Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon linked up with other terror groups in the region.

“These were old fights….Before us, before the Spaniards, and that would be about 600 to 700 years ago, before evangelists of Islam came,” he said.

The President said the conflict among Islam denominations could be traced to the Middle East, citing the case of Shiites and Sunnis. “The capital of the Shiite Islam is Marawi,” he said.

“You should be aware of that because the Muslims, Moros are spreading out not to fight, but really to seek the goods of a developed place,” Duterte said.
