Senators ikinatuwa ang planong pagpasok ng Chinese telco sa bansa

MANILA, Philippines – Malugod na tinanggap ng mga senador ang plano ng gobyerno na papasukin sa bansa ang Chinese telecommunication company upang masugpo ang “duopoly” na inuulan ng reklamo dahil sa hindi magandang serbisyo.

Sinabi ni Senate President Koko Pimentel na sa pagpasok ng Chinese telco ay magkakaroon ng kompetisyon kung saan makikinabang ang publiko dahil gaganda ang serbisyo ng mga katunggali.

“The absence of alternatives has numbed us to the reality of poor network coverage, dropped calls, disappearing loads, lost text messages, and slow data or internet speeds. This should be unacceptable; our countrymen deserve better,” pahayag ni Pimentel ngayong Martes.

Ikinatuwa rin naman ito ni Senate Committee on Public Services chair Grace Poe ngunit ikinabahala ang batas na magiging balakid sa pagpasok ng Chinese telco.

“Healthy competition could lead to better services for the consumers. However, our current laws would not allow this,” sabi ni Poe na inihain ang Senate Bill Number 1441.

“This is why I filed SBN 1441, which seeks to amend the antiquated Public Service Act that would confine the definition of ‘public utility’ to natural monopolies, which are the transmission and distribution of electricity, and water works and sewerage systems as it should,” ani ng senadora.

Tiniyak naman ni Poe na gagawin ang lahat upang maipasa ang panukala sa Senado.

Samantala, nais naman ni Sen. Bam Aquino na buksan din sa ibang bansa ang kompetisyon at hindi lamang sa China tulad ng ginawa ng Singapore kung saan mayroong anim kompanya ang naghahatid ng serbisyo sa publiko.

“Natutuwa tayo sa pagkilala ng Pangulo na kailangan nating pagandahin ang ating sektor ng telekomunikasyon sa pamamagitan ng kumpetisyon, subalit hindi tayo dapat malimita sa isang bansa lamang,” wika ni Aquino.

“Habang isinusulong natin noon ang Philippine Competition Act, nakatagpo tayo ng interes mula sa mga kumpanyang galing Japan at Korea na gustong pumasok sa ating industriya ng telco,” dagdag niya.

Dati nang binalak pumasok sa bansa ng Telstra na mula ng Australia ngunit hindi natuloy.

Sa kasalukuyan ay dalawang kompanya ang naghahatid ng telecommunications service sa bansa kabilang ang internet na isa sa pinakamabagal sa buong mundo.
