Ateneo gets 'Go signal' at perfect time

MANILA, Philippines — Isaac Go’s moment of redemption couldn’t have come at a better time.

After missing the shot against La Salle that would’ve kept them undefeated in the UAAP’s elimination round, the Ateneo de Manila University big man hit a bucket that kept the Blue Eagles’ season alive.

Actually, make that two shots.

Go first hit a long bomb to send the game to overtime during their rubber match with the Far Eastern University. He then hit another basket — with half of his body already on the MOA Arena’s parquet flooring — to send the Tamaraws packing.

“For the three, I just have to thank Coach Tab (Baldwin) because he believed in me…” the 6-foot-6 cager added. “He had more confidence in me than I had in myself.”

“After the game, all I could say was ‘Thank You,’” Go continued. “His belief in me and my teammates and the coaching staff helped me make that shot.”

The Blue Eagle senior, who is now on his third playing year, was one of the four cagers who tallied double-digit production in the thriller against the Tamaraws. He finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and a block.

Go’s heroics, sends his team back into the Finals to take on the only blemish in their 13-1 elims record.

All smiles throughout the post-game presser, the Blue Eagle center wrapped up the chat saying he would’ve wanted a “Paul Desiderio moment.”

"Gusto ko sana parang kay Paul eh, 'Atin 'to pare!' Gusto ko sana eh. Pero wala na," he shared with a chuckle.
