Digital radiology services available

CEBU, Philippines — Modern and digital radiology services are now available in at least four provincial hospitals in the Province of Cebu located in Carcar, Danao, Bogo, Balamban.

The Capitol has partnered with Mediarchives Philippines, Inc. (MAPI), a health service provider specializing in digital radiology workflow and processes.

MAPI president Armando “Bimbo” Quintong said it is very timely that the Malasakit Center was launched Monday at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. The launching was led by no less than President Rodorigo Duterte.

“This will lead to decongestion of Cebu’s district hospitals and Vicente Sotto where for the most part in the past, patients were taken there to be diagnosed and treated,” said Quintong.

MAPI is expanding its footprint in the Visayas with the simultaneous online linkup of all the radiology centers of the four major hospitals in the province.

The four hospitals will be connected by MAPI’s online portals that could be accessed by radiology staff of the hospitals and speedup delivery of services such as X-ray and CT Scan reading.

Quintong said the MAPI-Cebu Province tie up entails the deployment of IT personnel in coordination with radtech staff and the training and transfer of skills set.

MAPI has rolled out training sessions with radtech personnel and doctors of each hospital to operationalize the portal linkup.

“The learning curve of the radtech is impressive, as well as the support provided by the in-house IT of the hospitals. Indeed the healthcare program in the province is in the right direction by laying the predicate in digitizing the X-ray procedures,” Quintong said.

He said they complemented it by installing multiple viewing stations and the efficiency it brings to the hospital has been felt instantly.

Quintong said the linkup of the four major hospitals in the province would translate to better and much-improved delivery of radiology services beginning with X-rays.

MAPI’s presence is also expected to result to early detection of non-communicable diseases and thus, ultimate prevention.

Its initial operations in Cebu began when it collaborated with Eversly Child General Hospital in Mandaue City by digitizing its operations.

Quintong said MAPI also provided links to Cebu-based doctors to read images from the X-rays instantly, as well as uplifting the radiology department by providing additional viewing stations and equipment.

“This has caught the attention of the provincial government. Thus, the same solution was applied. What was a 5-day to 6-day turn-around time for reading and diagnosing images was now a thing of the past –one day is the norm now,” he said.

He said that aside from resulting to faster readings of X-ray results, the portal linkup of the four Cebu provincial hospitals would also mean less crowding in the PhilHealth wards of government hospitals, translating to more savings.

Quintong added that the fees would be determined by the Provincial Health Board but he assured that it should be within the PhilHealth coverage and not higher than any private radiology center. —FPL (FREEMAN)
